One-line rule: Pick your trim and Launch Package decision first (which trim to buy). Then treat color/interior as a calendar choice: newer paint and Coastal Cloud add weeks on top of the baseline.

Invite first – then the clock starts

Rivian is still sending R2 order invitations in batches. Support’s framing (checked Oct 1):

Batches began June 9, 2026 for US reservation holders and continue as deliveries ramp.
Primary factors: reservation timestamp + where the vehicle will be delivered. Areas near Rivian Service + Demo Centers generally get invites sooner early in the ramp.
R1 owners get accelerated delivery timing, balanced against non-owners so the queue keeps moving.
Expiring leases: you can enter lease end info in your Rivian Account; Rivian leases are already known.
Some reservation holders may get a random early invite (Rivian’s stated reason: refine timing estimates).

Until you have an invite, you are not on the 4–8 week delivery clock. After invite, you can configure and confirm when ready – but Support warns models, options, and pricing can change until you confirm. Configuration and price lock at confirm.

Color and interior: the published wait table

Rivian now publishes color/interior-specific estimates on the same Support page. Baseline after confirm remains 4–8 weeks; these rows are the exceptions shoppers actually feel:

How to read it: If you want the newest exterior colors or Coastal Cloud, budget closer to two to three months after confirm, not the optimistic end of the 4–8 week band. Esker Silver sits in between. Colors/interiors not listed on that table should still be assumed under the general 4–8 week line unless configure or your delivery advisor quotes something else. As of Oct 2, Support still lists only Borealis, Coastal Cloud, Esker Silver, and Forest Green as longer-window exceptions.

These longer quotes line up with options that entered the configurator later in the ramp (Forest Green / Coastal Cloud wider availability in September; Borealis production callouts around September 2026 on EM’s sheet). Treat that as context, not a Rivian official “why.”

Order-now vs wait: timing stacked on trim

Delivery weeks only matter for the trim you can actually buy.

Launch Package note: rivian.com/r2 still markets Launch Package with Performance for a limited time. Waiting for Premium or Standard means you are not ordering that Performance Launch stack later as the same “included for a limited time” deal – plan Autonomy+ / Tow / key fob / Launch Green accordingly. What lengthened since launch

At launch messaging (May/June 2026), Rivian talked about delivery within roughly 2–6 weeks after confirm. Support’s current general line is 4–8 weeks, with the color table pushing selected options to 8–12. That is a normal early-ramp pattern: more configs, more paint, more geography – longer quoted windows.

Electron Motion will not invent plant throughput numbers. If Rivian publishes a newer Support table or configure ETA, update this post’s table and the sheet changelog – don’t guess from investor-event paraphrase.

How long does Rivian R2 delivery take after I order?

Per Rivian Support: once your order is confirmed, expect 4–8 weeks for most configurations. Some colors and Coastal Cloud quote 8–12 weeks. Your invitation date is separate from that post-confirm clock.

Why is Borealis / Forest Green slower?

Rivian’s Support page lists those options (plus Coastal Cloud) at 8–12 weeks. It does not publish a full manufacturing explanation on that page – treat the table as the customer-facing ETA.

Do I lose my reservation place if I wait for Premium?

Rivian’s launch communications said reservation priority also applies to future trim releases, and you would be notified when those trims open. Treat that as Rivian’s stated intent, not a contractual guarantee – confirm in your Rivian Account / advisor when Premium opens.
