Updated October 16, 2026
Rivian R2 delivery wait times haven’t moved since our first look. Confirm an R2 order and most builds arrive in 4 to 8 weeks. Borealis, Forest Green and the Coastal Cloud interior take 8 to 12 weeks, and Esker Silver sits in between at 6 to 10. What has changed is that we now have a few weeks of real deliveries to compare against those quotes, and many owners are getting their cars sooner than the window suggests.
The figures below come from Rivian’s Support article on R2 order invitations and the rivian.com/r2 page, both rechecked October 16, 2026. R2 is US-only for now. Order invitations are going to US reservation holders, and Rivian hasn’t published delivery timing for Canada, where it also takes R2 reservations, or any other market.
Quick answer
| Stage | What Rivian says |
|---|---|
| Getting an order invitation | Rolling batches since June 9, 2026, based mainly on reservation date and delivery location. Areas near Rivian Service + Demo Centers usually go first. |
| After you confirm an order | 4-8 weeks for most builds |
| Borealis, Forest Green, Coastal Cloud | 8-12 weeks |
| Esker Silver | 6-10 weeks |
| What you can order now | R2 Performance with Launch Package, included for a limited time |
| What’s next | Premium in late 2026, Standard in early 2027 |
The short version: pick your trim first, then treat paint and interior as a calendar decision. The newest colors and Coastal Cloud add about a month to the baseline quote.
The invite comes first
The delivery clock doesn’t start until you have an invitation and confirm an order. Rivian’s Support page lays out how invites are prioritized:
- Batches began June 9, 2026 for US reservation holders and continue as deliveries ramp up.
- Reservation date and delivery location matter most. Areas near Service + Demo Centers generally get invites sooner early in the ramp.
- Current Rivian owners get faster timing, balanced against new customers so the line keeps moving.
- If your lease is ending, you can add it in your Rivian Account. Rivian leases are already accounted for.
- Some reservation holders get a random early invite, which Rivian says helps it refine timing estimates.
Your Rivian Account shows an estimated invite window. Once the invite arrives, you can order whenever you’re ready, but models, options and pricing can change until you confirm. Your configuration and price lock at that point.
Wait times by color and interior
Rivian publishes specific estimates for the options that run longer than the standard 4 to 8 weeks. The table is unchanged since October 2:
| Color or interior | Delivery after you confirm |
|---|---|
| Borealis | 8-12 weeks |
| Coastal Cloud (Signature interior) | 8-12 weeks |
| Forest Green | 8-12 weeks |
| Esker Silver | 6-10 weeks |
If you want Borealis, Forest Green or Coastal Cloud, plan on two to three months rather than the short end of the standard window. Esker Silver lands in the middle. Any color or interior not on this list falls under the standard 4 to 8 weeks unless the configurator or your delivery advisor tells you otherwise.
These are also the options that joined the R2 lineup most recently. Rivian made Forest Green and Coastal Cloud available to order on September 8, and owners report Borealis orders opening around September 15. Rivian hasn’t said that’s the reason for the longer quotes, but the timing lines up.
What owners are actually seeing
Rivian’s windows look conservative so far. These reports come from owners on Reddit’s r/RivianR2 and the Rivian Roamer tracker. They’re community data points, not Rivian figures, and they skew toward people who chose to share.
- A Borealis and Coastal Cloud order confirmed September 15 had a pickup scheduled for September 29, about two weeks later, despite the 8-12 week quote.
- A Catalina Cove and Coastal Cloud order placed September 3 was quoted 8-12 weeks and given a September 28 delivery date.
- A Catalina Cove and Coastal Cloud order placed September 1 received its VIN on September 29 with an estimated delivery of October 19, about seven weeks.
- Some orders are tracking closer to the quote. One Forest Green order placed August 18 was still waiting for a VIN in late September, around week six.
Rivian Roamer, which tracks R2s whose owners have linked their accounts, counted 1,183 delivered as of mid-October, with weekly handovers peaking at 271 in the week of September 21 during the end-of-quarter push. Its sample of reservations shows invite estimates spread from October 2026 through February 2027, so many reservation holders are still months from an invite. These numbers cover only Roamer users, not every R2.
Timing by trim
Delivery weeks only matter for the trim you can actually order.
| If you want | What to expect |
|---|---|
| An R2 this year with Launch Package | Performance is the only orderable trim. Expect 4-8 weeks after you confirm, or 8-12 for Borealis, Forest Green or Coastal Cloud. |
| Dual-motor AWD without paying for Performance | Wait for Premium, which Rivian says arrives in late 2026. Your reservation priority carries over, and Rivian will notify you when it opens. |
| The lowest price | Standard, from $44,990 on rivian.com/r2, is listed as coming in 2027. Rivian has said early 2027. |
On the Q2 earnings call in July, RJ Scaringe said several times that Premium and Standard would arrive in early 2027. Rivian followed up with a statement that Premium is still due in late 2026 and Standard in early 2027, and that “available” means when orders and first deliveries begin. As of October 16, Premium isn’t open to order yet and Rivian hasn’t given an exact date.
For prices, power and cabin differences between trims, see our which-trim guide and the Rivian R2 Cheat Sheet.
Rivian still markets Launch Package as included with R2 Performance “for a limited time.” It bundles lifetime Autonomy+, the tow package rated for 4,400 lbs (about 2,000 kg), a Rivian Green anodized key fob and exclusive access to Launch Green paint. If you wait for Premium or Standard, you won’t get that bundle on those trims, so decide how much it’s worth to you before you pass on an invite.
How the quotes have grown
At launch in June, Rivian said to expect delivery within 2 to 6 weeks of confirming. The Support page now says 4 to 8 weeks, with the newest colors at 8 to 12. That’s a normal pattern early in a ramp, with more configurations, more paint options and more delivery areas. We won’t guess at plant output in Normal, Illinois. If Rivian publishes new figures, we’ll update this post.
Checklist before you confirm
- Pick your trim. Performance now, Premium in late 2026 or Standard in early 2027.
- Decide on Launch Package. It only comes with Performance and only for a limited time.
- Choose color and interior. Borealis, Forest Green or Coastal Cloud means planning for 8 to 12 weeks, though many recent orders have arrived faster.
- Check the total. Advertised prices don’t include destination or taxes. Rivian’s checkout examples showed a $1,495 destination fee as of October 2.
- Recheck Support the day you order. Rivian updates the wait-time table as the ramp moves.
FAQ
How long does Rivian R2 delivery take after I order?
Rivian says 4 to 8 weeks for most builds once you confirm. Borealis, Forest Green and Coastal Cloud are quoted at 8 to 12 weeks, and Esker Silver at 6 to 10. Owner reports suggest many orders arrive sooner. The time you wait for an invitation is separate.
Why are Borealis and Forest Green slower?
Rivian’s Support page lists them, along with Coastal Cloud, at 8 to 12 weeks but doesn’t give a reason. They’re also the newest options in the R2 lineup.
Will I lose my place in line if I wait for Premium?
Rivian has said your reservation priority carries over to future trims and that you’ll be notified when they open. Confirm it in your Rivian Account when Premium launches.
Is Performance still the only R2 I can get now?
Yes, as of October 16, 2026. R2 Performance with Launch Package is the only trim being ordered and delivered. Rivian says Premium arrives in late 2026 and Standard in early 2027.
Can I order an R2 outside the US?
Not yet. Invitations are going only to US reservation holders, and Rivian hasn’t announced delivery timing for other markets.
