Rivian Point to Point, the hands-free feature that lets a Rivian follow your navigation route from driveway to destination while you supervise, now has a date and a path. It will reach owners first through a new invitation-only Autonomy Early Access Program, with delivery targeted for December.
What Point to Point does
Today’s Universal Hands-Free already lets Gen 2 R1 and R2 owners with Autonomy+ drive hands-free on roads with clearly marked lanes, which Rivian says covers about 3.5 million miles of roads in the US and Canada. Point to Point builds on that by tying hands-free driving directly into route navigation.
In Rivian’s words, the vehicle “now follows your active turn-by-turn directions, handling supervised turns, highway transitions, and city streets to take you seamlessly from driveway to destination.” It runs on Rivian’s 360-degree multi-modal sensor array and its Large Driving Model, the in-house AI driving model Rivian introduced at its Autonomy & AI Day last December.
It is still a supervised, eyes-on feature. Rivian says its Autonomy+ features support the driver but don’t replace the driver’s judgment, and drivers need to stay ready to take control at all times.

How the Autonomy Early Access Program works
Rivian describes the program as a way to put next-generation Autonomy features “into the hands of real owners, in real driving conditions, before they ever reach a general release.” Point to Point is the first feature testers will get. Here is what Rivian has published so far:
- Who can apply: any owner with an active Autonomy+ subscription can register interest through their Rivian account.
- Who gets invited: a limited group of owners with active Autonomy+, high use of Autonomy features, and a clean recent safety record.
- If you aren’t picked: there’s no rejection email, and you don’t need to reapply when the program expands to your area.
- Ongoing checks: safety and participation are re-verified every 30 days, and Rivian can end a membership at any time.
- Pay: participants are not paid.
- Where: California and Florida at launch, with more locations planned. Owners in Canada aren’t eligible for now.
When every Autonomy+ owner gets it
Rivian says Point to Point will come to all Autonomy+ subscribers “at a later date.” Its R2 Autonomy+ roadmap is a little more specific: a limited rollout begins this year, and a widespread customer rollout is targeted for 2027.
What Autonomy+ costs
Autonomy+ is $49.99 a month or a $2,500 one-time purchase, and the one-time purchase stays with the vehicle if it’s sold. New Rivians come with a 60-day trial from delivery day. On the R2 Performance with Launch Package, Autonomy+ is included for the life of the vehicle, so those owners can apply for early access without adding a subscription. (See our R2 trim guide for how Launch Package fits the lineup.)
Our take
Starting with a small group of owners who already use hands-free driving often and have clean records is a smart way to roll out a much bigger capability. Those drivers know how Universal Hands-Free behaves, they’re used to supervising it, and the 30-day re-checks keep the group sharp as the software improves.
It’s also a good moment for the R2. Between Rivian Assistant arriving on R2 and Point to Point now on the calendar, the newest Rivian keeps gaining real features through software. For Launch Package owners especially, the lifetime Autonomy+ inclusion is about to start paying off in a big way.
If you own a Gen 2 R1 or an R2 with Autonomy+, the application goes through your Rivian account. California and Florida owners are first in line, and Autonomy+ owners in other US states can register interest now so they’re already on the list when the program reaches them.
