Dodge Charger Daytona vs Tesla Model Y: How the Electric Muscle Car Compares

The Dodge Charger Daytona sold 233 cars in the U.S. in the third quarter, down 92 percent from 2,776 a year earlier, according to the sales chart Stellantis attached to its October 1 release. Year to date it is at 767, down from 7,075. Set beside the Tesla Model Y, the world’s best-selling electric car in 2025, the numbers help explain where buyers are landing.

Price

Dodge’s June 2026 price list starts the 2027 Daytona Scat Pack at $72,495 for the two-door and $72,995 for the four-door. The Scat Pack Plus is $77,490. That is up $12,500 from the $59,995 Dodge asked for the 2026 Scat Pack in December 2025. All of those exclude tax, title and fees.

In the U.S., the Model Y starts at $39,990 and the Premium All-Wheel Drive is listed at $48,990. That puts the entry Daytona about $23,500 above an all-wheel-drive Model Y. Prices vary by market, and the Daytona is sold in fewer countries than the Model Y.

Range and efficiency

The EPA rates the Daytona Scat Pack at 267 miles and 86 MPGe, or 39 kWh per 100 miles, on its standard 305-section tires. Fit the wider 325 rears and it drops to 241 or 223 miles. That is from a 93.9 kWh usable battery in a car Dodge lists at 5,778 pounds.

The EPA’s 2026 Model Y listings run from 306 to 357 miles. The Premium AWD is 327 miles at 27 kWh per 100 miles. The base rear-drive car uses 24. By our math from the EPA figures, the Daytona uses roughly 45 percent more energy per mile than a Model Y Premium AWD.

The platform likely plays a part. The Daytona rides on Stellantis’ STLA Large, a multi-energy architecture that also underpins the gas Charger. A dedicated battery platform can package the pack, motors and weight around one goal, while a shared one has to accommodate more than one powertrain. The Daytona’s weight and its focus on performance tires and power also shape its rating.

Charging

For 2027, Dodge made a NACS port standard, so the Daytona can plug into Tesla Superchargers. Its spec sheet lists 20 to 80 percent in 27 minutes on a 350 kW charger.

Tesla lists the Model Y Premium at a 250 kW peak and up to 169 miles added in 15 minutes. The Model Y also gets the native Supercharger experience Tesla built around it, with Trip Planner routing stops and more than 80,000 Superchargers worldwide. The Daytona can use the same plugs, though its higher energy use means each charging minute adds fewer miles.

Cabin air

Tesla says the Model Y Premium and Performance use HEPA filtration. Dodge’s own build sheet for a 2026 Daytona lists a “CABIN FILTER N95+BIO HVAC.” Dodge does not describe it as HEPA in the sources we found, so shoppers who prioritize cabin air quality may want to compare the two specs directly.

Space and software

The Model Y is a crossover with 74 to 76 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded, a front trunk and a hands-free rear trunk. The Daytona is a coupe or a four-door hatchback with a long rear opening. It is practical for a muscle car, but it is not a crossover, and Dodge does not publish a comparable cargo number on its spec sheet.

Software is a Tesla strength. Over-the-air updates, phone key, Sentry Mode and Camp Mode are on the Model Y, and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is available as an option. The Daytona runs Dodge’s Uconnect system with its own app and connected features.

Where the Daytona wins

Speed and drama. Dodge rates the Daytona Scat Pack at 670 horsepower with PowerShot and 627 lb-ft of torque, 3.3 seconds to 60 mph and an estimated 11.5-second quarter-mile. That matches the Model Y Performance’s 3.3 seconds, which Tesla quotes with rollout subtracted, and it looks and sounds like nothing else on an EV lot. There’s no tailpipe, of course. Dodge’s Fratzonic “chambered exhaust” is a speaker system that plays amplified, synthesized engine sound out the back, and it’s pure theater.

Two different kinds of EV

The Daytona is a fast, expressive electric car with a character no crossover tries to match. The Model Y counters with a lower price, longer range and more space, and so far more buyers have chosen it. With a standard NACS port and a 2027 lineup now on sale, it will be worth watching how the Daytona’s numbers move in the quarters ahead.
