The Chevy Bolt starts at $28,995 including destination, and the window to buy a new one may be shorter than GM planned. A memo cited by a UAW local president and reported by Reuters says GM’s Fairfax plant in Kansas will build about 35,000 Bolts before production ends in the first quarter of 2027, down from a projected 150,000.
That end date comes from union documents, not from GM. Asked about the report, GM said: “We continuously evaluate market dynamics and customer demand to make decisions regarding our operations.” GM has not announced when the 2027 Bolt run will stop.
What the reported production cut means for buyers
Autoblog, citing the Reuters report, says about 1,000 Fairfax workers were placed on indefinite layoff and the plant will shift to building the gas Equinox. Autoblog puts Bolt sales at 4,224 through August, and it reports that dealer inventory is not expected to run out for some time. A shorter run still means fewer cars to choose from later, especially in specific colors or with Super Cruise.
Bolt prices, trims and the Super Cruise math
The Bolt comes in two trims, LT and RS. Both use the same 210 hp front motor and 65 kWh LFP battery, with an EPA-estimated 262 miles of range. Chevrolet lists the LT from $27,600 and the RS from $31,600, before the $1,395 destination charge.
Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free highway system, is available on both trims. Chevrolet says the Bolt is the most affordable vehicle in America to offer hands-free driving. The Super Cruise Package costs $3,255, but each trim needs other packages first, and that changes which trim makes sense.
| Bolt version | Price with destination | Range (EPA est.) | Super Cruise | Added for Super Cruise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LT | $28,995 | 262 mi | Not included | None |
| RS | $32,995 | 262 mi | Not included | None |
| LT with Super Cruise | $35,655 | 262 mi | Included | $6,660 (Super Cruise, Technology, Comfort and Evotex packages) |
| RS with Super Cruise | $37,445 | 262 mi | Included | $4,450 (Super Cruise and Technology packages) |
Package prices from GM Authority’s order-guide reporting; Forbes lists the same $35,655 total for a Super Cruise LT. Base prices from chevrolet.com. Prices before tax and dealer fees.
If you want Super Cruise, a Super Cruise RS costs $1,790 more than a Super Cruise LT and adds black 17-inch wheels, red-stitched seats, multi-color ambient lighting and RS styling. If you do not want hands-free driving, the base LT at $28,995 is the value pick.
Charging and range
The Bolt has a native NACS port, the first Chevrolet EV with one, so it plugs into Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. Peak DC charging is 150 kW, up from 55 kW on the old Bolt, and Chevrolet estimates 10 to 80% in about 25 minutes.
Chevrolet says 262 miles is the most range of any EV under $30,000. In Car and Driver’s highway test, an RS went 230 miles. The Bolt also supports vehicle-to-home power with GM Energy’s PowerShift charger and V2H kit, which are sold separately.
The 2.9% APR offer
Chevrolet’s site currently advertises 2.9% APR for 60 months through GM Financial for well-qualified buyers, with no monthly payments until next year. A 0.9% APR for 36 months is the alternative. GM Authority and a Chevrolet dealer’s copy of GM’s offer terms list a take-delivery deadline of November 4, 2026. Chevrolet’s own page does not show an end date, and offers can change, so confirm the terms with the dealer.
At 2.9% over 60 months, the payment is $17.92 per $1,000 financed. Financing $30,000 works out to about $538 a month. Interest still accrues during the deferral, and the deferral is not available in Pennsylvania.
How the Bolt compares with the alternatives
The Nissan Leaf starts at $29,990 plus $1,495 destination, for $31,485. That is $2,490 more than a Bolt LT.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 costs $36,795 with destination and gets up to 319 miles. That is $7,800 more for 57 more miles and a bigger cabin. Shoppers looking at a larger GM-based crossover can also read our Honda Prologue buyer guide, which compares the Prologue with the Equinox EV.
GM’s next affordable EVs move to a new platform with LMR battery cells, so the current Bolt is the one on sale until then. If the 2.9% rate matters to you, the reported November 4 delivery deadline is the date to plan around. Canadian pricing and incentives are different; see our October Canada EV deals.
